Being a school organist can often feel isolating. You may well be the only organist, with a small number of organ pupils and a lot of pressure to perform to a high standard. (Imagine if the English teachers were required to write a piece of poetry every day - yet you are expected to turn out high quality work with minimal preparation time.)

Becoming a member of the School Organists' Association means being part of a group of colleagues with the similar experiences and interests. We were founded in order to provide that support. You will have access to our developing online resources, including our Facebook group to ask questions, get help and offer ideas to colleagues. You and your pupils will be able to attend our events - professional development, masterclasses, recitals; even just a chance to chat to your colleagues and share ideas.

Membership of the School Organists' Association is open to anyone who is either

  • employed or self-employed as an organist or organ teacher in a school in the UK; or

  • is the director of music in a school in the UK and is interested in organ playing and teaching (e.g. as a former school organist)

We charge a small subscription (currently £25 per year) renewable on 1 September; if you join after 1 March then you will be charged a half rate.

If you are interested in becoming a member please email the Secretary, David Quinn, for more information.
